The Edinburgh Companion to Sidonius Apollinaris contains some chapters that aspire to be comprehensive surveys of subjects already well treated in scholarship, and others that represent an early stage of research where much more remains to be investigated. The chapter on ‘Sidonius’ prose rhythm’ by Joop van Waarden and me (on pp. 462-475) is definitely in the latter category.
