Recupero Porcino Launches New Sidonius Edition

Eleonora Recupero Porcino (Ca’ Foscari Venice) launched the demo version of a new digital edition of Sidonius’ works, called Sidoniana.

It introduces itself as follows:

  • The Sidoniana project is a digital edition project of the entire correspondence of Sidonius Apollinaris, freely accessible on the Web. Created by Eleonora Recupero Porcino as part of a doctoral project in Ancient Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (scholarship funded by PON Research and Innovation 2014-2020), the site is currently limited to book VIII only, but with a perspective of expanding the material. The interoperability between a wide range of tools accompanying the text and other resources available online makes it a portal of interest for a varied user base. Alongside bibliographic and prosopographic sources, particular attention is given to the complexity of the manuscript tradition, with the objective of offering a preparatory contribution to setting up a new critical edition of Sidonius’ works.

The Companion Continued

To mark the first anniversary of the publication of the Companion, as of March 2021, the website is enriched with a Companion Continued section. The editors envisage a space for new ideas and improvements for the years to come. There will be separate sections for the various chapters, which can contain materials provided by their authors as well as by others. If you have something to add, feel free to write to the editors.

We begin with posts by Gavin Kelly concerning chapters Chapters 3 and 15. For chapter 3, Dating, he writes ‘An Edition of the Paratexts of Sidonius’ Poems’; for chapter 15, Prose Rhythm, he comes with ‘Sidonius’ Prose Rhythm: A Supplement’.

Addenda et corrigenda are the next item, and there is a menu point crosslinking to general information about the Companion and its reception in the press.
