The Radboud Research Group ‘The Ancient World’ at Nijmegen and the School of History, Classics, and Archaeology of Edinburgh University are happy to invite you to attend the conference day
Sidonius Apollinaris Beyond the Companion: From Archaeology to Popular Culture
to mark the publication of The Edinburgh Companion to Sidonius Apollinaris, edited by Gavin Kelly and Joop van Waarden and published by Edinburgh University Press.
Date: Thursday, 14 May 2020
Venue: Radboud Campus Nijmegen
Arrivals: 10:00‒10:30h. The programme runs from 10:30 to 17:30h. Coffee, tea, lunch, and drinks are provided for. The day aims to explore avenues of future research on Sidonius and his times, and will be concluded with a public lecture.
Speakers include Lucy Grig (Edinburgh) on popular culture, Daniëlle Slootjes (Nijmegen) on dioceses in Gaul, Caroline Michel d’Annoville (Paris) on Vaison-la-Romaine, and Jeroen Wijnendaele (Ghent) on state violence.
A distinctive element is a series of short pitches by early-career as well as established scholars to outline the panorama of Sidonius research under way or about to be undertaken. There are a few free slots left. We welcome proposals at j.vanwaarden@let.ru.nl.
Public lecture at 16:30h: Mark Vessey (Vancouver) on ‘Sidonius, or the Big Beyond’. All welcome.
